HealthLynk Medical Disclaimer
Version: 1.0 Effective date: 17 August 2026 Last updated: 17 August 2026
HealthLynk is operated by HealthLynk (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2026/646559/07, a private company registered in the Republic of South Africa.
This Medical Disclaimer explains the important limitations of HealthLynk as a personal health-information management platform.
It should be read together with the HealthLynk Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and POPIA Privacy Notice, and other applicable HealthLynk policies.
1. HealthLynk Is an Information-Management Platform
HealthLynk provides digital tools that help individuals and families store, organise, manage, access and share health-related information.
Depending on the functionality available, HealthLynk may allow users to:
- maintain personal or family health profiles;
- record healthcare encounters;
- upload prescriptions and related documents;
- upload test results and other health documents;
- store healthcare receipts;
- maintain health-history information;
- organise information into a health timeline;
- manage profiles on behalf of authorised persons;
- share selected information with authorised persons; and
- generate summaries, exports or downloadable copies of information.
HealthLynk does not itself provide medical treatment or professional healthcare services.
2. HealthLynk Is Not a Healthcare Professional
IMPORTANT
HealthLynk is not:
- a doctor;
- nurse;
- pharmacist;
- psychologist;
- therapist;
- dentist;
- hospital;
- clinic;
- medical practice;
- emergency medical service;
- medical scheme;
- health insurer; or
- other healthcare professional or healthcare provider.
Use of HealthLynk does not create a doctor-patient, healthcare-professional-patient or similar clinical relationship between you and HealthLynk (Pty) Ltd.
Nothing displayed through HealthLynk should be interpreted as HealthLynk holding itself out as a registered healthcare practitioner.
3. HealthLynk Does Not Provide Medical Advice
Information available through HealthLynk is provided for health-information management purposes.
HealthLynk does not provide:
- medical diagnoses;
- clinical assessments;
- treatment recommendations;
- medication prescriptions;
- dosage instructions;
- medical opinions;
- medical clearance;
- emergency medical advice;
- medical-device recommendations; or
- decisions about whether a particular treatment is appropriate for you.
You should obtain advice from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional before making decisions concerning your health, medication, diagnosis or treatment.
4. Medical Emergencies
DO NOT USE HEALTHLYNK TO OBTAIN EMERGENCY MEDICAL ASSISTANCE.
HealthLynk is not monitored or operated as an emergency-response service.
If you believe that you or another person may be experiencing a medical emergency, seek appropriate emergency medical assistance immediately.
Depending on the circumstances, this may include:
- contacting the appropriate emergency services;
- contacting a healthcare professional;
- attending the nearest appropriate emergency facility; or
- taking another emergency action recommended by a qualified healthcare professional.
Do not delay emergency treatment while attempting to find, upload, update, share or retrieve information through HealthLynk.
5. Do Not Rely on HealthLynk as the Sole Source of Critical Medical Information
HealthLynk is intended to supplement the ways in which you organise and access health information.
It should not be treated as the sole source of information required for urgent or critical medical care.
Where information may be important for emergency care, ongoing treatment or another significant healthcare decision, users should maintain appropriate access to original records or other reliable sources of the relevant information.
The availability of information through HealthLynk may be affected by:
- internet connectivity;
- device availability;
- account-access problems;
- maintenance;
- technical failures;
- third-party service outages;
- incorrect user data;
- incomplete records; or
- other circumstances.
6. User-Provided Information
Much of the information available through HealthLynk is entered, selected, uploaded or otherwise supplied by users.
HealthLynk generally does not independently verify the clinical accuracy, completeness or current status of such information.
A record may therefore be:
- incomplete;
- inaccurate;
- outdated;
- uploaded to the wrong profile;
- incorrectly categorised;
- missing relevant context; or
- inconsistent with a healthcare provider's official record.
Users should take reasonable care when adding or managing health information.
Where accuracy is important for treatment or another healthcare decision, the information should be verified against an appropriate source, such as the original medical document or the relevant healthcare professional.
7. Uploaded Medical Documents
HealthLynk may allow users to upload copies or images of documents such as:
- prescriptions;
- test results;
- medical reports;
- discharge documents;
- referral documents;
- healthcare receipts; and
- other health-related records.
HealthLynk's storage or display of a document does not mean that HealthLynk:
- created the document;
- issued the document;
- verified its authenticity;
- verified its medical accuracy;
- endorsed its contents;
- confirmed that it remains current; or
- confirmed that the document relates to the correct person.
Users are responsible for ensuring, to the best of their knowledge, that documents are stored against the appropriate profile.
8. Prescriptions and Medication Information
The ability to store a prescription or record medication-related information does not mean that HealthLynk has prescribed or recommended that medicine.
HealthLynk does not determine:
- whether a prescription remains valid;
- whether a medicine is appropriate for a particular person;
- whether a dosage is correct;
- whether different medicines may interact;
- whether a person should begin or stop taking medication; or
- whether medication information entered by a user remains medically current.
Medication-related decisions should be discussed with an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
A person should not start, stop or change prescribed treatment merely because of information displayed in HealthLynk.
9. Test Results and Medical Reports
HealthLynk may allow users to store test results, laboratory reports, medical reports and related documents.
HealthLynk does not independently interpret those results for clinical purposes unless a future feature is expressly described otherwise.
A test result may require interpretation in light of factors such as:
- the individual's medical history;
- symptoms;
- age;
- other test results;
- medication;
- clinical examination;
- laboratory methodology; and
- other medical context.
Users should obtain appropriate professional interpretation where necessary.
10. Health Timelines and Summaries
HealthLynk may organise information into timelines, summaries or other simplified views.
These features are intended to make information easier to organise and review.
A timeline or summary may not contain every piece of medical information relating to a person.
The absence of an item from a HealthLynk timeline or summary does not establish that:
- the medical event did not occur;
- the person does not have a particular condition;
- the person has not received particular treatment; or
- no other relevant medical record exists.
Where precise or complete information is required, users should consult the underlying records and, where appropriate, the relevant healthcare professional.
11. HealthLynk Exports
HealthLynk may allow users to generate downloadable summaries, histories, selected records, PDFs, CSV files, ZIP archives or other exports.
An export is generated from the information available to HealthLynk at the time it is created.
A HealthLynk-generated export should not automatically be regarded as:
- an official medical record issued by a healthcare provider;
- a medical certificate;
- a prescription;
- proof of diagnosis;
- proof of fitness or incapacity;
- a clinical report prepared by a healthcare professional; or
- a complete record of all healthcare received by the person.
Where an official clinical or legal document is required, users should obtain it from the appropriate issuing person or organisation.
12. Sharing Information With Healthcare Professionals
HealthLynk may enable users to share health information with healthcare professionals or provide them with exported information.
Sharing information through HealthLynk does not guarantee that:
- the healthcare professional has received it;
- the healthcare professional has reviewed it;
- the information is clinically sufficient;
- the information has been incorporated into the healthcare provider's own records; or
- the healthcare professional will rely on it for treatment.
Where information is important for treatment, users should confirm directly with the relevant healthcare professional that the necessary information has been received and appropriately considered.
13. Healthcare Professionals and Other Third Parties
Healthcare professionals, hospitals, clinics, laboratories, pharmacies and other third parties that may appear in information stored through HealthLynk operate independently from HealthLynk unless expressly stated otherwise.
HealthLynk does not supervise or control the professional judgement of an independent healthcare provider.
The inclusion of a healthcare provider's:
- name;
- contact information;
- prescription;
- report;
- test result;
- receipt;
- or other record
does not constitute an endorsement, recommendation or guarantee by HealthLynk concerning that provider or the services provided.
14. Family and Managed Profiles
HealthLynk may permit an authorised person to manage health information relating to another person.
The ability to manage another person's HealthLynk profile does not itself establish that the manager has authority to make medical decisions for that person.
Authority to:
- access health information;
- consent to treatment;
- make healthcare decisions;
- obtain medical records; or
- share another person's health information
may depend on applicable law and the person's circumstances.
Users are responsible for ensuring that they have appropriate authority when acting for another person.
15. Children's Profiles
A parent, legal guardian or other legally competent person may, where permitted, manage a child's information through HealthLynk.
The availability of a child's profile does not replace the need for appropriate parental, guardian or other legally required consent to medical treatment.
HealthLynk does not determine who is legally authorised to consent to a child's healthcare merely because a person has access to a HealthLynk profile.
16. Information From Third Parties
Some information stored through HealthLynk may originate from:
- healthcare providers;
- laboratories;
- pharmacies;
- hospitals;
- family members;
- carers;
- profile managers;
- organisations;
- imported documents; or
- other third parties.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, HealthLynk does not warrant that third-party information is complete, accurate or current.
Any question concerning the clinical meaning or accuracy of a third-party medical record should generally be directed to the person or organisation responsible for issuing that record.
17. Automated Processing, OCR and Artificial Intelligence
HealthLynk may introduce functionality in future that assists users by automatically extracting, categorising, organising, summarising or presenting information from uploaded documents or other records.
Such functionality may use technologies including optical character recognition, automated processing or artificial intelligence.
Where these features are provided, they should be treated as assistive tools rather than a substitute for professional healthcare judgement.
Automated systems may:
- misread text;
- omit information;
- incorrectly classify information;
- misunderstand context;
- produce incomplete summaries; or
- make other errors.
Users should verify important automatically generated information against the original source material.
Unless HealthLynk expressly establishes a separately regulated clinical service in future, automated HealthLynk functionality does not provide a medical diagnosis or treatment recommendation.
18. Reminders and Notifications
If HealthLynk provides reminders or notifications relating to appointments, medication, tests, documents or other health matters, those features are intended as convenience tools.
Users should not rely on a HealthLynk notification as their sole method of remembering an important medical action.
A notification may fail or be delayed because of factors including:
- device settings;
- network connectivity;
- email delivery;
- browser permissions;
- service availability; or
- incorrect information supplied by the user.
A missed or absent HealthLynk notification does not mean that an underlying medical instruction, appointment or treatment requirement no longer applies.
19. Service Availability
HealthLynk aims to provide reliable access to the Service but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability at all times.
Temporary interruptions may occur because of:
- maintenance;
- security updates;
- infrastructure problems;
- telecommunications outages;
- third-party failures;
- software defects;
- account-security measures; or
- circumstances outside HealthLynk's reasonable control.
HealthLynk should therefore not be used as the sole repository for information that must remain immediately available during an emergency.
20. No Guarantee of Medical Outcomes
HealthLynk helps users manage information.
HealthLynk does not guarantee that use of the Service will:
- improve a person's health;
- prevent illness;
- prevent an emergency;
- result in an earlier diagnosis;
- ensure correct medical treatment;
- prevent medication errors;
- improve treatment outcomes; or
- ensure that healthcare professionals receive all relevant information.
Health outcomes depend on many factors beyond the operation of an information-management platform.
21. Decisions Based on Health Information
You remain responsible for seeking appropriate professional medical advice before making decisions that require clinical judgement.
In particular, you should not rely solely on HealthLynk when deciding whether to:
- seek or delay medical treatment;
- begin treatment;
- discontinue treatment;
- change medication;
- change medication dosage;
- undergo a medical procedure;
- interpret test results; or
- disregard advice previously given by a healthcare professional.
22. Security and Confidentiality
HealthLynk recognises the sensitivity of health information and applies appropriate technical and organisational safeguards to protect personal information under its control.
However, this Medical Disclaimer does not replace the more detailed information contained in the HealthLynk Privacy Policy and POPIA Privacy Notice and the Security and Data Protection Statement.
Users must also take reasonable steps to protect:
- their passwords;
- email accounts;
- devices;
- authentication methods; and
- information that they choose to export or share.
Once information has been lawfully exported and independently shared with another person, the recipient may have separate responsibilities concerning that information.
23. Limitation of This Disclaimer
This Medical Disclaimer is intended to explain the proper role and limitations of the HealthLynk Service.
It is not intended to:
- remove a right provided by applicable law;
- exclude liability that HealthLynk cannot lawfully exclude;
- excuse HealthLynk from complying with applicable data-protection, consumer-protection or other legal obligations; or
- transfer responsibility to a user for conduct for which HealthLynk is legally responsible.
Any limitation or exclusion contained in this Disclaimer must be interpreted subject to applicable South African law.
24. Relationship With the Terms of Service
This Medical Disclaimer forms part of the overall legal and informational framework governing HealthLynk.
The HealthLynk Terms of Service contain additional provisions relating to:
- acceptable use;
- subscriptions;
- account responsibilities;
- service availability;
- intellectual property;
- third-party services; and
- limitation of liability.
If a provision of this Medical Disclaimer conflicts with a mandatory provision of applicable law, the mandatory legal provision will prevail.
25. Changes to This Disclaimer
HealthLynk may update this Medical Disclaimer where necessary to reflect:
- changes to the Service;
- new health-information functionality;
- automated or artificial-intelligence features;
- new integrations;
- changes in applicable law or regulation; or
- changes to HealthLynk's business model.
Material changes will be communicated where reasonably appropriate.
The most recent version will be published on the HealthLynk website with its effective date and version number.
